How many??

Too many machines?

NEVER!!!

My first machine was a pre-teen gift from my parents -  a beautiful Singer treadle machine. It is still in great working condition and nearing “antique” status. 

My first fancy machine was one of the early computerised Bernina machines - the 1130. It has sewn sooooo many things over the years and is still going strong today. 

My next machine (Bernina 580E) was purchased because I was developing an interest in machine embroidery. Unfortunately, this machine was a bit of a lemon, (as sometimes happens in any machine brand) so an eventual upgrade happened with the Covid 19 lock-down purchase of my amazing Bernina 770QE. It is truly my dream machine.

I also have a Bernina overlocker so I thought my collection was complete…….until we remembered my maternal grandmother’s sewing machine was stored under our house. Initial enquiries with a machine serviceman shattered my dream of sewing on it - saying it would be very expensive to replace the motor/electrical cords and pedal. Well….along came my hubby and within a very short time and the purchase of a replacement motor/ pedal unit and new light bulb he had Nana Farrar’s 1937 Singer 99K machine purring away for me. The cost blew out to about $30!!!

While Big Bertha (770QE) is embroidering designs I can use my trusty old 1130 to put things together. Nana’s machine will be my leather sewing machine, an area I am excited to try for the first time. 

Can anyone ever have too many machines? I don’t think so but John begs to differ!

Mind you, he has quite happily facilitated every machine purchase and is continually supportive of my obsession with making things.
